A painting by Wassily Kandinsky in motion (+jazz). Kandinsky's use of geometric shapes and lots of colours has always fascinated me, so I think this video is pretty cool. It's made by a jazz trio called "The Kandinsky Effect", you can check out more of their music here.

When in Rome... part 4

As you might have noticed, if you have followed my blog for some time, I am not good at taking photos of people, but I am trying to get better. In Rome our teachers gave us a task, "take photos of different ways to sit down and places to sit". It was a lot of fun to take those photos, plus I got some photos very different from what I usually would take. I think I should give myself some photo challenges every once in a while.

Movies I've seen recently #7

Water for Elephants (2011)
Just as good as expected! As you might remember, I loved the book, so the expectations were quite high. The atmosphere is just as I imagined it when I read the book. The only complaint is that the acting wasn't the best at all times (Robert Pattinson's facial expression were a bit off sometimes...). But it's probably just me, who think that.

Across the Universe (2007)
Actually I'm not too crazy about musicals. Usually I think there is too much singing going on in musicals and the constant singing annoys me, but in this film it was not bad at all - probably because I knew a lot of the songs and like Beatles music in general. So if you like The Beatles, you should see it!

Hairspray (2007)
I only watched this movie because it was the only thing on TV and I was bored. It's just as bad, as I thought it would be. Bad songs and a stupid plot (plus John Travolta is incredibly annoying dressed up as a woman). The only good thing about this movie is James Marsden and he's not playing a big part in it, so it's not worth the time really. Watch 27 Dresses instead, if you need a Marsden fix.

When in Rome... part 3

Something modern and something very, very old. I love the colours in the first photo taken at the Maxxi Museum by Zaha Hadid. The exhibitions wasn't that interesting, most of it was just weird, but then again it's modern art, so I guess that is just the way it is. Next, we have Palazzetto dello Sport, the most fascinating and beautiful sports arena I have seen, at least on the inside. From the outside it's more special than pretty (I didn't get any photos from the outside as it was raining). I guess most of you know Colosseum... Last, but not least, a photo from Auditorium Parco della Musica. Again, no photos from the outside because of rain, but the buildings are really cool, they are sort of scarab look-a-likes (Google is your friend if you want to see a photo).

By the way, I'll be travelling around Europe this month, so probably no more blogging the next few weeks. But I guess you are used to irregular blogging on my part. Have a nice summer!

Movies I've seen recently #6

Hooray! Two months of freedom lies ahead! 3 weeks of travelling and lots of time for book reading, movie watching, taking photos and relaxing. Much, much needed :)

My Blueberry Nights (2007)

I remember seeing the cover for this movie years ago, when I worked at a gas station, where you could rent movies. When I saw the cover, I decided that I had to see this movie someday. It took four years before that happened, so maybe I've built up some crazy expectations, I don't know. At first it disappointed me, but now, a few days later, my view upon it is more positive. The story isn't great, but I really like the mood in this film - the soundtrack is perfect for this atmosphere (or maybe the atmosphere is as it is because of the music?).
Furthermore it's a beautiful movie visually, it's full of rich colours, which also adds to the atmosphere. And last, but not least, Jude Law is in it and that's always a plus, haha. I love his accent.

The Painted Veil (2006)

One of the best things about this movie is the incredibly beautiful Chinese scenery. If I return to China one day I definitely have to go more inland to the countryside instead of staying in the big cities.
The story is good as well, just a little bit too long-drawn-out. Especially in the beginning I was a little bored.

Bounty

Last weekend I made Bounty bars! It was the first time I tried, but definetely not the last as they are very delicious and taste just like real Bountys (or maybe even better). They didn't turn out as pretty as intended, but luckily there's no one else but me who have to see them. And if I am going to make them for others to see I'll probably make an effort to get a better looking result.

When in Rome... part 2

This has been a crazy week! From Monday morning and 25 hours ahead I worked with my group on our semester project and then we went home to get some sleep before we went back to uni to practice for another exam tomorrow where we have to know a lot of architects, buildings and stuff like that by heart. Phew, I'm looking so much forward to weekend!
