When in Rome... part 5

I had an afternoon off to do whatever I wanted, so I went on a walk around the city, all by myself. I don't think I've ever walked around in a foreign city before without company, but it felt good. Just to walk around without any destination. I went to Isola Tiberina and strolled around. It was a special place, very tranquil compared to the rest of the city. Those colourful bottles in the river are kind of beautiful.

When in Rome... part 3

Something modern and something very, very old. I love the colours in the first photo taken at the Maxxi Museum by Zaha Hadid. The exhibitions wasn't that interesting, most of it was just weird, but then again it's modern art, so I guess that is just the way it is. Next, we have Palazzetto dello Sport, the most fascinating and beautiful sports arena I have seen, at least on the inside. From the outside it's more special than pretty (I didn't get any photos from the outside as it was raining). I guess most of you know Colosseum... Last, but not least, a photo from Auditorium Parco della Musica. Again, no photos from the outside because of rain, but the buildings are really cool, they are sort of scarab look-a-likes (Google is your friend if you want to see a photo).

By the way, I'll be travelling around Europe this month, so probably no more blogging the next few weeks. But I guess you are used to irregular blogging on my part. Have a nice summer!

When in Rome... part 2

This has been a crazy week! From Monday morning and 25 hours ahead I worked with my group on our semester project and then we went home to get some sleep before we went back to uni to practice for another exam tomorrow where we have to know a lot of architects, buildings and stuff like that by heart. Phew, I'm looking so much forward to weekend!

When in Rome... part 1

Luckily, my mood is better again. Yay! Today I had the time to sort out my photos from Rome, so here is the first part! The first day we visited Pantheon and Forum Romanum. Pantheon is kind of cool.

The Emperor's Castle

If you're into origami just like me, you'll probably like this, am I right? I think it's pretty awesome! But then again, architectural models fascinates me a lot in general, so it's not surprising that I really like it. So many tiny details, I love it!
The project is called The Emperor's Castle and it's made by British architect Thomas Hillier. On his website it's described like this "a fantastical theatre of surreal spatial thresholds sited in Tokyo that used narrative as a vehicle to examine current day cultural and social issues within Japan". You can read more about it on his website, if you want.

I used the same pattern for some of my origami, as you might have seen in this post. It's pretty cool to see origami from an architectural perspective "in action", as that is exactly what we had to do.
