Sneak peek

I'm back again, hope you all had a nice July! As mentioned in my last post, I've spent some time in Italy (photos are on their way) and the last couple of days I've been busy painting my new apartment.




Here's a few sneak peeks of a few of the things I made during the ceramics course I attended a month ago. I love the bright yellow glaze, so almost half of the things I made are bright and happy yellow. I also made some candle light holders as I planned in this post, plus my technique definitely improved. It's not at all perfect yet, but I think the imperfect things have their own charm as well.

Inspiration

Next week I'll be off for this summer's ceramics course, so I've been looking for a bit of inspiration for my clay projects. Last year I made tons of small bowls with different glazes (and I really don't know how to use them all), so this year I'll try to make less, but in a better quality, which means I'll focus on improving my technique.



The cups (or whatever they're called) in the bottom left corner of the collage have the most incredible paper-thin sides. I have never seen ceramics as thin as that. And I love the yellow colour. They are made by the Danish potter Bodil Manz.
I also like the two baskets (upper left corner) made by Malene Müllertz, but I don't think I'll be able to make anything like that myself. But they're beautiful.
Last but not least, the lamps full of holes from feinedinge. I think I'll try to make something similar, just for candles. Now I just have to figure out how to make the holes. Not sure if I dare to "ruin" the vases I make by making holes in them...

Clam Lab

The ceramicist featured in The Makers Project (seems like I can't stop referring to that project...) has a very nice etsy shop and this week she is Etsy's featured seller, so I had a second look at her shop. It's filled with beautiful cups and teapots.
I picked out a few of my favourites (yes, 8 is a few and it wasn't easy, I tell you). I love the cups and bowls, which are only partly glazed. The contrast between the matte finish of the raw clay and the shiny glaze is very nice. But then again, I love ceramics in general.

The Makers

When I saw these photos I realized how much I miss sitting behind a potter's wheel! To start out with a lump of nice, soft clay, not knowing what it will turn out to be and suddenly you have a bowl or a cup. I love it, it's so much fun and luckily I'll spend a week this summer making ceramics again, can't wait!




The photos is a part of a photo project by Jennifer Causey called The Makers Project. With inspirational photos she takes us behind the scenes, showing the work spaces and studios of various craftsmen in Brooklyn. Among others she visited a ceramicist, a printer, chocolate and candy makers, a perfumer, a florist and a designer.
