Hearts made of glass

Hearts Made of Glass

This week I've been listening a lot to this song. I just listened to the rest of the album, Way to Normal, on youtube and it really wasn't to my taste at all. But this song is just perfect, it must have been his lucky day when he made this one. Enjoy and have a nice weekend!

Charming narrow streets in Chania. Love those balconies and the colours.

The Elegance of the Hedgehog

Yesterday I finished one of the best books, I have read this year (and I have read quite a few by now), so I guess it's time for another recommendation.
Even though this book has got a lot of negative ratings on Goodreads, I had a good feeling about this book, even before I started reading it. Probably because of the pretty cover and the title (and the fact that it takes place in Paris and there's a Japanese in it too - it almost can't get any better if you have a weakness for France and Japan).
And I must say, that it really did live up to my expectations. It made me both laugh out loud and cry and I enjoyed every page of this book. It's the kind of book where you get the feeling that you know the characters and don't want it to end, because you know you'll miss them (am I the only one who get this feeling?). Though the last few chapters are quite tragic it's a really good book, highly recommendable!

The book is also made into a film, Le Hérisson (or The Hedgehog). Another addition to the constantly growing list of must-see films! Seriously, I have to watch movies more often with all those movies I want to see.

I'm not able to describe the main characters better than they're described on Goodreads, so you'll get the description from there:
"We are in the center of Paris, in an elegant apartment building inhabited by bourgeois families. Renée, the concierge, is witness to the lavish but vacuous lives of her numerous employers. Outwardly she conforms to every stereotype of the concierge: fat, cantankerous, addicted to television. Yet, unbeknownst to her employers, Renée is a cultured autodidact who adores art, philosophy, music, and Japanese culture. With humor and intelligence she scrutinizes the lives of the building's tenants, who for their part are barely aware of her existence.
Then there's Paloma, a twelve-year-old genius. She is the daughter of a tedious parliamentarian, a talented and startlingly lucid child who has decided to end her life on the sixteenth of June, her thirteenth birthday. Until then she will continue behaving as everyone expects her to behave: a mediocre pre-teen high on adolescent subculture, a good but not an outstanding student, an obedient if obstinate daughter."

Clam Lab

The ceramicist featured in The Makers Project (seems like I can't stop referring to that project...) has a very nice etsy shop and this week she is Etsy's featured seller, so I had a second look at her shop. It's filled with beautiful cups and teapots.
I picked out a few of my favourites (yes, 8 is a few and it wasn't easy, I tell you). I love the cups and bowls, which are only partly glazed. The contrast between the matte finish of the raw clay and the shiny glaze is very nice. But then again, I love ceramics in general.

Finally I had the time to take a closer look at my photos from Crete. The photos is from a small cave with dripstones and a lot of doves flying in and out. The caves wasn't that photogenic, but the plants outside were. I love when photos, you didn't expect to be anything special, turns out to be far better than you ever hoped for.
We also visited a very, very small village in the middle of nowhere with beautiful stone houses (and grumpy cats I'll show a photo of another day).

Mixed media

It seems that blogger is up and running again, so it's time for a new post, before I return to my preparations for my written examination next week.
I found these "photo-illustrations" by Johan Thörnqvist the other day and I just had to share his artwork. The mixed media effect is pretty fascinating, I think. And those small houses are perfect - they remind me of those kinds of houses I liked to draw when I was a little girl (except that my houses were not as pretty as his). You can see the rest of his work here.

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

I've wanted to see this movie for a long, long time and finally I got a chance to see it last weekend. It was not at all like I'd expected it to be, but it was good, I really liked it. I don't exactly know what I was expecting, maybe that it would be lighter or something. Maybe because Jim Carrey was on the cast list - so far I had only seen him in comedies (I simply love all those funny faces he makes). But he was really good in this one, and so was Kate Winslet. I like her crazy hair colours.

I think I have to see it again, it was not always easy to distinguish between what is memories and what isn't. It was quite confusing, so it is probably even better next time I see it, when I have a better idea of what's going on.

This song from the soundtrack is pretty good.

Orange

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The large number of almost identical photos of orange trees in my photo archives from my holiday in Greece indicates that I'm not at all used to see orange trees everywhere. That's the good thing about digital cameras. You can take a crazy amount of more or less identical photos without being ruined. Anyway, here is a few of my favourites. Too bad the smell doesn't come out of the photos.

Cool lamps

A new look behind the scenes is up at The Makers Project (I wrote about the project here a few weeks ago). This time we have a look into the design studio of Pelle Designs. I think those lamps are pretty cool.

+ I enjoyed this toy camera guide by Elsie Cake from A Beautiful Mess (I love that name for a blog, I would have chosen that if it wasn't already taken). I have to get a toy camera someday, but it's not easy to choose what I want. The Golden Half Camera is nice with two photos in one, but the Action Sampler looks like fun too.

Something beautiful - music edition

flower 005

Yesterday this song came to my mind while I was on my way to school. When I was 16 we had a radio in our classroom, so we were listening to the radio in all our breaks. And this song was played a lot back then. I'm not a huge fan of Robbie Williams (even though I think I have one of his albums somewhere), but I really like this song. A perfect happy song for a Monday morning (or any other morning).

Something beautiful

Can't believe it's already May! Time flies like crazy. Soon it's time for exams (the first one will be in about two weeks), so I better start looking at all the formulas I have to know by heart, luckily I have plenty of time for that.
It's also time for something good; a new Harry Potter movie. In the weekend I stumbled upon the trailer for the very last Harry Potter movie. I love Harry Potter, both the books and the movies. This trailer gives me the shivers, it will be awesome. If you want, you can see the trailer here.

Friday I went for a walk in the woods with my camera. It is so pretty this time of year with the sun shining through the leaves and white anemones covering the forest floor.
