Art by Zum

This is an artist I discovered many years ago and I really like her quirky style. At deviantART she calls herself Zum, unfortunately I haven't been able to find her real name anywhere, but you can check out her gallery here - there are a lot of pretty things to look at in there! The colours and the textures are quite beautiful. I like the way she draws hair and leaves it without colour sometimes. Even though she uses the same symbols (e.g. stars and birds) a lot it never gets boring. Because I like a lot of her work so much it has been quite difficult to pick out a few of them...

I've been thinking about buying a print to decorate my wall, the only problem is that I can't choose which one I want the most.

All that glitters is not gold

This morning everything was sparkling outside as the ground was covered with frost. Frosty weather and sunshine is such a beautiful combination! The worst thing about it is that I don't have the skills to capture the glitter perfectly with the camera, but I guess that's just a matter of practice.
A few of them turned out better than expected, so there’s still hope.

Careless whisper

I’ve spent a few hours today trying to make a list of all the blogs I read (not finished yet) and it seems like it’s a never-ending list! Can’t believe I read so many blogs; it’s kind of crazy, isn’t it? Well, it’s also fun and a great way to get inspiration, so I guess it’s all good.
Now I need a break (my eyes in particular) away from the screen, so I’ll leave you with some nice music.

Anybody who knows how to post a youtube video without the video, you know, just the sound? Any help will be highly appreciated! The music player from goear is definitely not the prettiest thing...

Nocturnes

Venice

Yesterday I finished a collection of short stories by Kazuo Ishiguro called "Nocturnes - Five stories of music and nightfall". The title sounded promising, I thought, but I must admit it was a bit dull.
However, I liked the first and the third story more than the others. The first one, "Crooner" is about a polish guitarist who plays songs for the tourists on a piazza in Venice (like in the third photo, I imagine). He meets an old crooner, who wants him to assist him in serenading his wife from a gondola, sounds very romantic, doesn't it? I can reveal that it turns out to be less romantic than it sounds, but I think you have to read it to get the rest of the story.
I don't know why I liked this one, but it made me feel like going to Venice!

And looking at photos from Venice at flickr just made me want to go there even more! It's so beautiful.
Ok, back to the short stories; the third one, "Malvern Hills", about a young man writing songs and playing his guitar in Malvern Hills, was good too, primarily because it gave me a nice summery feeling (hmm, do I miss summer a little?)

Btw, these photos are so beautiful, check out the galleries on flickr, follow the links below!

As good as chocolate (almost)

A long time ago I read the book Chocolat by Joanne Harris. Yes, it's the one made into a movie with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche in the lead roles (which btw is a nice movie). I made a mistake, when I read the book shortly after watching the movie - I didn't like the book that much, because it wasn't identical to the movie.
But I liked the universe so much, that I thought I'd give the "sequel" a chance. So I read The Lollipop Shoes and I love it! If the book reflects the true life in a chocolaterie, I want to be a chocolatier (unfortunately it doesn't). All the descriptions of how to make the most delicious chocolates is just so... yummy! It's definitely a feel good book. I recommend reading it in the autumn or winter, just because it's not that suited for summer, in my opinion. It's too cosy, if a book can be cosy, haha. Too much babbling going on here, I'll stop now. Just read it, you won't regret it (I hope).

(Btw the title of this post does not refer to the book, but the eatable kind of chocolate of course ;) ).

Blue flowers

I have a soft spot for flowers, for which reason I really like taking photos of them. I find it quite hard to take interesting photos of flowers, often they're just boring, I really need some practice, I think.
These photos are almost 4 years old, so they're from the beginning of my "career" as photographer (long before I got my reflex camera)

They're not the most interesting photos, I've seen, but at least I like the colours.

First entry

Welcome to my blog!

I'm mostly starting this project for my own sake, but of course you're more than welcome to follow, if you feel like it!
I'm a bit of a bookworm, so I'll probably write about some of the books I read, but also about movies I've seen or would like to see, music I listen to and other things I find inspiring in one way or another. I'll also post photos, some of my own (I love taking photos!) and probably also photos taken by somebody else or other kinds of art, I find here and there. Maybe the blog will be like this or maybe I'll get other ideas, you never know :)

It's such a beautiful day today, the sun is shining from a cloudless sky and it gives me a feeling that spring is on its way. I love that kind of weather. It makes me happy!

Happy Sunday everyone!
