Movies I've seen recently #5

Hello! I'm back from Italy! I haven't had the time to go through my photos yet, so photos post will have to wait. I have more than 900 to choose from. Instead you get a little review of some movies I watched before I went to Italy. These film posts are great - it helps me remember all the films I see.

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)

The reason why I chose to watch this movie was primarily because Eddie Redmayne is in it. And he did a good job, but his part was rather small (by the way he was great in Pillars of the Earth - that's where I know him from - you should watch it if you like the book by Ken Follett, it's great as well!).
Nevertheless I liked the movie, Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Eric Bana are also doing a good job here. I'm just really happy that I didn't live at that time.

Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

Despite the fact that I don't like Will Ferrell, who plays the leading role in this film, I actually liked the movie. (More precisely it is his eyes I don't like + I can't stop thinking of him as an elf after watching ELF many years ago). Maggie Gyllenhall is great as always and I like the plot too.

Sherlock Holmes (2009)

I liked this one as well, it's full of action and surprises. I love the interaction between Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and Dr. Watson (the always great Jude Law). Rachel McAdams is also doing a good job + her dresses are nice. I'd recommend it and now I have to see if the sequel is available at the library.

Pier 39

The day we arrived in San Francisco we took a quick walk to Pier 39 and tried to get tickets for Alcatraz, but they were sold out almost a week ahead. Next time I'm in San Francisco I'll still have a lot of things I need to see.

By the way, I'm going to Italy this week, so the blog probably won't be updated the next few weeks. But I'll be back before April is gone (hopefully) with lots of photos!

So pretty and yet so tasteless.

A few books I've read...

It's been a while since I wrote anything about the books I've read, maybe because I haven't read any really great books lately, but I thought I'd just say a few words about some of them anyway. Let's hope the next books I read will be better!

Chronic City
For some unknown reason I really, really wanted to like this book, but I must admit, that I don't. It is one of the most boring books I've read this year and it was hard for me to get through it. If your curiosity is big enough, and you still want to know what the book is all about, after my negative words, you can read a review here.

Faithful Place
If you like mystery/crime fiction you'll probably like this one. It's not amazing, but I enjoyed it (even though it was a wee bit too long). Reviews can be found here.

Eat, Pray, Love
This is also a book I've had one my to-read-list for a long time. I thought the travelling part of it would be something I'd like to read. Some of it was good, I liked the Italy part, maybe because it was the first part of the book and I wasn't yet tired of "me, me, me" aka Elizabeth Gilbert talking about herself. I know it's what you should expect while reading a biography, but still. It annoyed me that it was all about her). I think (and hope) the story works better as a film, at least the book haven't deterred me from wanting to see the film. Reviews here.

Have you read some good books lately?

March Challenge part 4

Day 26. Had a deadline at school, so I didn't have time to do anything for the challenge. Boring.

Day 27. Went shopping, didn't buy anything but this top. I love the colours! (Not the best photo though).

Day 28. I finally pulled myself together to wash my bike. It was much needed after driving the salty roads the whole winter.

Day 29. I wore a yellowish top for the first time. Yellow is a new colour in my wardrobe, but I think I like it.

Day 30. Didn't do anything differently on purpose, I guess I've lost some motivation for this challenge along the way... But I watched a movie instead of TV while I ate.

Day 31. Bought a pitahaya fruit and ate it. It's a very pretty fruit, so beautiful and strong colours! (And I have a preference for pink these days, which makes it even prettier). The taste didn't live up to the looks though. I mean - look at it - doesn't it look like a fruit with a very, very exotic and strong taste? That was what I expected, so it disappointed me a little as it didn't really taste of anything. Maybe a little bit like kiwi, but much weaker. I'd prefer a kiwi anytime.
